Dan Kennedy
DAN KENNEDY started at McSweeney’s in 2000 as well as the downtown New York storytelling scene at popular venues like The Moth, going on to perform as a host and storyteller for 20 years onstage and as longtime host of The Moth Podcast. Moving into writing for film and television, Kennedy has sold series pilots to HBO and F/X and worked on feature film screenwriting assignments at Amblin, Paramount, and Amazon Studios. He most recently began serving as a story consultant on the Peacock Original series TRUE STORY with Ed Helms and Randall Park (2022). He is the author of three books, LOSER GOES FIRST (Random House/Crown), ROCK ON: An Office Power Ballad (Algonquin, a Times of London Music Book of The Year) and AMERICAN SPIRIT: A Novel (Houghton Mifflin/Little a, 2013, Publisher’s Weekly starred review). His stories have appeared in GQ Magazine, and his work is widely anthologized in the US and Europe. Kennedy has been a guest lecturer at Yale, and a guest author at The Harvard Lampoon in celebration of his work anthologized in “The Best of McSweeney’s Humor”. He lives and works in New York, and has sat on the judging committees of the PEN America Jean Stein Grant for Literary Oral History, and the 2018 and 2019 Writers Guild of America East “Made in New York” Fellowship Program
